Solar roof: turn your building into an energy producer
A photovoltaic roof involves installing solar panels on the roof of an existing building or one under construction — such as a logistics hub, warehouse, factory, shopping centre or commercial building. The electricity generated can be consumed directly on site (self-consumption), fed into the public grid, or shared as part of a collective self-consumption scheme.
The principle: Mexens takes charge of the entire project (feasibility study, administrative procedures, construction and connection) under a third-party investment model. You make your roof available; [New brand] finances, installs and operates the solar power plant for the entire duration of the lease. You receive an annual rent or a lump-sum payment, without having to use your own funds.
With roof areas often exceeding 5,000 m², industrial and logistics buildings offer considerable production potential: a single site can accommodate several megawatts peak (MWp) of solar panels and generate hundreds of MWh of renewable electricity each year.

The benefits of a solar roof for your building
Economical
Mexens covers the entire cost of the investment.
Depending on the project’s profitability, you may receive an annual rent payment or a lump-sum payment.
Your roof is upgraded at no cost to you, and you receive a lump-sum payment or an annual rent payment for the duration of the lease.
Energy efficiency
Reduce your energy bill by using the electricity generated on-site directly.
Lock in your energy costs for the long term, protecting against market price volatility, thanks to a fixed price per MWh for the duration of the contract.
Property valuation
Enhance the appeal of your property.
Installing a solar power system makes it easier to obtain environmental certifications (BREEAM, HQE) and is a key selling point for investors and tenants.
Sustainable
Play an active role in the energy transition by generating low-carbon electricity on your own premises.
Strengthen your CSR policy and enhance your reputation among your stakeholders through a visible and measurable commitment to decarbonisation.
Take control of your energy budget
The electricity generated by your solar panels is used directly on-site: lighting, automated systems, cold rooms, charging points…
- Lock in the price per MWh for the duration of the contract
- Cut your energy bill with a fixed-price electricity tariff, unaffected by market price rises
- Pay only for the electricity you use
Keep your financial capacity to invest
All the electricity generated is fed into the public grid and sold under a feed-in tariff agreement (mandatory purchase scheme or CRE tender).
- Have your solar panel system installed for free
- Potential to receive an annual rent
- Keep your investment capacity free for your core business
Combine the best of both models
Some of the electricity is used on-site to meet your needs; the surplus is fed into the grid. This model optimises the cost-effectiveness of your system and maximises your energy self-sufficiency.
- Maximise your self-consumption rate
- Generate additional income
- Adjust the allocation over time as your needs change
Mexens covers all the costs associated with your solar roof project

Frequently asked questions about solar roofing
A photovoltaic roof is a building whose roofing is equipped with solar panels. These panels convert solar radiation into renewable electricity, which can be consumed on-site or fed into the public grid.
Photovoltaic roofs can be installed on logistics platforms, warehouses, industrial buildings, shopping centers, office buildings, and public facilities. The recommended minimum surface area is 5,000 m².
With Mexens, you have no upfront investment. We cover all costs (design, construction, grid connection, operation) through a third-party financing model. Depending on the project’s profitability, you may benefit from an annual rent or an upfront premium.
Mexens invests on your behalf and recovers its investment through the sale of electricity produced or the savings generated by self-consumption. You make your roof available; Mexens finances, builds, and operates the system throughout the lease duration.
Mexens assesses the compatibility of your roof (type of roofing, orientation, slope, structural condition, ICPE/ERP constraints). If roof renovation is required, it can be integrated into the project.
A high-quality, well-maintained photovoltaic panel can last over 50 years. Mexens handles system maintenance and replaces faulty panels throughout the lease duration.
