The benefits of self-consumption of solar power for your business

Economical

Cut your electricity bill by 10–30% from the very first year.

Every kWh you generate and use on-site is a kWh you no longer have to pay your supplier for.

Mexens guarantees you a fixed, competitive rate for the entire duration of the contract, protected from market price rises.

Strategic

Secure your energy supply and gain independence from market fluctuations.

Controlling your energy costs means controlling your competitiveness and the future of your business. Your electricity costs are locked in for 20 to 30 years.

Sustainable

Play an active part in the energy transition by using low-carbon, locally generated electricity.

Strengthen your CSR policy and communicate your commitment to your employees, customers and partners.

Regulatory compliance

The Energy and Climate Act requires new buildings larger than 500 m² to have a photovoltaic roof covering at least 30% of their footprint.

The APER Act requires photovoltaic carports to be installed in car parks larger than 1,500 m².

Self-consumption allows you to meet these requirements whilst maximising the value of your property.

A range of options
for your project

Self-consumption is not limited to a single type of installation.
Depending on the layout of your site, Mexens can offer you the most suitable solution — or a combination of several options:

Option 1: Solar roof

Mexens takes care of every aspect of your self-consumption project

Analysis of your electricity consumption (pattern, baseline, peaks), available space (roof, car park, land) and your site’s solar potential. Design of the solar installation and assessment of the connection.

Planning permission, prior notification, Enedis declaration, self-consumption agreement — Mexens takes care of all the formalities.

Mexens invests on your behalf (third-party investment). You pay only for the electricity you use, at a rate that is lower than the market rate and remains stable over time.

Installation of the panels, inverters and monitoring system. Connection to your site’s electricity grid and commissioning of the power plant.

Operational and financial management of the power station throughout the duration of the contract. Mexens has its own technical teams for preventive and corrective maintenance, and monitors performance in real time.

As a member of Soren, Mexens handles the collection, transport and recycling of end-of-life panels.

Frequently asked questions about self-consumption of solar power

Photovoltaic self-consumption involves generating electricity using solar panels installed on your premises and using it directly on-site. Any surplus electricity not used can be fed into the grid and sold back to the grid operator.

Savings depend on your installed capacity, your consumption profile and the amount of sunlight your site receives. On average, businesses reduce their electricity bills by 10 to 30 per cent. With Mexens, you benefit from a fixed, competitive rate for the entire duration of the contract.

A site is well suited to self-consumption if it meets three criteria: sufficient available space (roof, car park or land), significant and consistent electricity consumption, and activity that takes place mainly during the day or a constant baseline consumption (refrigeration, industrial processes). Our teams will carry out a free assessment to evaluate your site’s potential.

With Mexens, there’s no upfront investment required. Mexens finances, builds and operates the solar power plant on your site. You pay only for the electricity you use, at a rate below the market price.

Mexens invests on your behalf and generates revenue from the sale of electricity. You provide the space (roof, car park, land); Mexens finances, builds and operates the power plant for the entire duration of the contract.

Your property remains connected to the national grid. When solar generation is insufficient (at night or on overcast days), you are supplied with electricity as normal by your energy supplier. Self-consumption reduces your reliance on the grid but does not eliminate it.

A high-quality, well-maintained solar panel can have a useful life of over 30 years. Mexens provides maintenance for the power plant and replaces faulty equipment throughout the duration of the contract.

Yes, depending on the power output and configuration, a planning permission application or a prior notification may be required. Mexens handles all the administrative procedures.

Yes. Self-consumption is particularly beneficial when combined with EV charging points. Electricity generated on-site can power your charging points directly, reducing the cost of charging your fleet or your visitors’ vehicles.

Individual self-consumption supplies a single site. Collective self-consumption allows the energy generated to be shared among several buildings or consumers located nearby. Mexens supports you with both setups.
